VAN TIRAX
About Me
About me
Inspired by Nature
Art, history, simplicity and passion for wine – these are the connotative elements of the creative work of Van Tirax, an Italian millennial artist born in Genoa and after several years living in different European countries is now living in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
His passion for nature, wine comes from his childhood, in fact when he was a child, VT’s parents transmitted him the passion for wine and nature by bringing him to wine producers in Italy and France and showing him the behind the scene.
Since then, he started collecting corks and not only to remember the memorable moments spent with his family and friends but with an idea to build something unique.

The Vision
Sustainability in emerging contemporary Art
Van Tirax art is a sustainability project, the main element of which is cork. Cork is a 100% natural, renewable, recyclable and biodegradable material that is extracted through a natural process that does not damage the tree. The cork oak tree can survive up to 300 years. Each artwork has an unique combination between champagne and wine corks that represents the perfect marriage, a predestined union of different stories that the artist wants to emphasize.
History is a key component of the Van Tirax art, in fact each cork encloses a different history : year, origin, harvest, winery (chateau) that the artist wants to make visible and recognizable by positioning the corks both horizontally and vertically. VT is here to create an environment of passion and love and bring to life our most memorable moments.
INTERVIEW WITH THE ARTIST
Living in Amsterdam
HAVING LIVED IN AMSTERDAM FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS. HE KNOWS HIS WAY AROUND THE CITY. HERE ARE SOME OF HIS FAVOURITE PLACES.
Favourite art hotspots? I love visiting the Stedelijk Museum and the Rijksmuseum. The mix of contemporary art and classic art always inspires me.
Most attractive building in Amsterdam? The Eye Filmmuseum which is directly across the IJ River from Amsterdam Central Station. To me, this modern building represents the city’s future.
What makes you proud to be an ‘Amsterdammer’? Amsterdam is a metropolis that feels like a village. The city has an accessibility you won’t easily find outside the Netherlands. As a result, Amsterdam soon feels like home to a lot of people. Besides that, it’s a melting pot of culture and creativity, which is reflected in the high level of art, architecture, fashion and hospitality.
Any hidden gems? I often go for a walk of run along the AmsteI river, from Amstel Park in the direction of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. It is one of the most beautiful, calm and lesser-known areas in the city.
What restaurants do you recommend? If I’m missing my country, Cecconi’s, Fiko or Ceppi’s never disappoint. My favourite fish restaurant is The Seafood bar is Spui. For breakfast/brunch Dignita Oftuin and Mems in the Pijp area.
Best view of the city? My favourite view of the National Opera & Ballet, Adam tower from the water, and exploring Amsterdam by electric canal boat is fantastic and eco-friendly way to get this different perspective of the city.
